World Heritage Day observed

JAMMU, Apr 18: On the occasion of World Heritage Day, programmes were organized by various organizations and institutions for awareness on preserving rich cultural heritage of the country.
Keeping in line with the theme of the day, Sheikh Noor -ud-din Noorani Museum of Heritage, a University Museum, as a part of its outreach programme under the direction of Centre for Studies in Museology, organized a one day interactive programme to promote the diverse cultural facets and arts of the people of the State along with Heritage Tourism.
The programme witnessed some extremely interesting events. An old lady Kailasho Devi, aged 87, contributed a lot to the local heritage through her art at Gharani, Suchetgarh. She presented some of the local artefacts namely Changer, Pukhi and Angithi made exclusively by her to the museum.  Clare Elizabeth Cowley, an Artist from Australia, gave a live demonstration on how to draw architectural drawings of heritage buildings.
Founding Head of the Department, Museology, JU, Prof Poonam Chaudhary underscored the importance of this day for protecting and preserving our rich cultural heritage and showcasing our ancient famous monuments in this part of the country.
Archaeological Survey of India today celebrated World Heritage Day in Akhnoor Fort.  Chief guest on the occasion was Sunena Mehta, SDM Akhnoor and guest of honour was KCS Mehta, Principal APS Akhnoor and Dheeraj Sharma, MD DCM Public School.
On the occasion, a photo exhibition was inaugurated by chief guest and guest of honour and S K Sinha of ASI.  Cultural programme was presented by students of various schools. Programme started with Saraswati Vandhana and welcome speech by Mitali Bhala of APS Akhnoor.
Prizes were distributed to the students who excelled in culture program me and painting competition.
SDM Akhnoor appreciated role of Archeological Survey of India for bringing students together and giving exposure to them about the heritage of our country.
On the occasion of World Heritage Day, the Himalayan Heritage Museum Talab Tillo Jammu, released a catalogue of manuscript/rare books.
The catalogue ‘Indian Manuscript Collection’ was released by Dilshad Khan, Secretary Culture, Government of J&K, and Reva Kumari, Special Secretary Culture Department.
Peerzada Mohammad Ashraf, Ex Deputy Director Archeology and Museum, Sahbi, Convener INTAC Jammu, Dr Arvinder Singh Aman, Additional Secretary AACL Jammu, Inder Singh, Chairman Himalayan Heritage Museum and others were also present on the occasion.
Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan celebrated World Heritage Day  in  coordination with Sangam Tru Art Production  Jammu, in the open air theatre Durga Bhawan,  Janipur Jammu and  presented the 152th Dogri  Musical Play “Tunde Jammua”, on the occasion.
Renowned  singers ,musicians , actors  and  students  participated in the programme. They included Usha Handoo , Dhruv Pandit  , Bhuvan Pandit, Ritesh Magotra, Sonu Gupta , Shaan Khan, .Hem Raj, Deevam Jandiyal, Sakshi and  Himika, who presented the enthralling performance.
M L Dogra, Chairman BLSKS presented welcome address while coordinator of the programe,  Master Deepak Kumar Dogra,   presented vote of thanks.
