Mir reviews damages to tourism sector in Jammu

JAMMU, Oct 1:  Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmed Mir along with Commissioner Secretary Tourism and Culture Shalindra Kumar today convened a meeting to take stock of damages caused to the tourism sector of Jammu region due to recent flash floods.
The meeting was attended by Director Tourism Jammu Soujanya Sharma, CEOs of various Development Authorities, other senior officers besides Sr. Vice President Hotel Association Rakesh Wazir, President Hotel & Restaurant Association Katra Sham Lal Kesar, Chairman SFVM Ravi Mahajan, J&K Federation of Taxi Operators Rajesh Gupta, President Jammu Association Tour Operator Amrik Singh, Abhay Bakaya, Bharat Bhushan Kotwal, Nishant Gupta, Davinder Choudhary, Inderjeet Sharma, other representatives of various associations.
While giving information about the quantum of damages to tourism sector in different districts of Jammu region, Director Tourism in a power point presentation briefed the Minister.
The Minister directed the concerned CEOs to submit a detailed report of damages caused to tourism infrastructure in their respective areas at the earliest for further submission to the concerned authorities.
Expressing concern over the set back suffered by every segment of the state, the Minister exhorted upon the need of strong coordination between the people, Government agencies and other concerned units to come out of this grave situation. He said that Government is working hard to bring back the shattered profile of the State on track through a well knit strategy.
Representatives of various business associations of Jammu division informed the Minister about the financial losses they have suffered due to this natural calamity and demanded some sort of compensation for the same.
