JAMMU, Aug 28: Union Minister of Water Resources, Uma Bharti today launched Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PJDY) at a function this afternoon held at Women College Gandhi Nagar here. The scheme was simultaneously launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at New Delhi and other Union Ministers and Chief Ministers at places in the country.
While Uma Bharti was the chief guest during the launch of the function, Minister of Planning State Government, Ajay Sadhotra was guest of honour on the occasion.
The launch was coordinated by J&K Bank.  Speaking on the occasion the Union Minister said Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana a comprehensive inclusion programme is for the upliftment of poor and down-trodden people of the country and bridge the gulf between the haves and have-nots.
She appealed the poor people to avail the benefits of this scheme by opening accounts in banks. Uma Bharti said earlier there used to be rush of people in front of Chief Ministers and Ministers offices as well as  residences and now there would Chief Ministers and Ministers rush on the door steps of people with the launch of this scheme.
She said under the scheme both women and men can open the accounts. Women whether educated or uneducated had to be dependent on their male partners for money and with the launch of this scheme this dependence will end, she added.
However she hastened to say that she does not want to create a gender division in the families with these remarks but my endeavor is that women should become totally independent.
She said with the launch of this Yojanawomen will be benefited to a great extent. However she hastened to say that by this she does not want to create a gender division in the families.
She said that poverty is a great setback to the nation and we have to overcome it. The scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Red Fort during Independence Day function and people should come and avail the opportunity.
She, while quoting the revolutionary saint of India, Swami Vivekananda said that he had once appealed the Hindus of the country to stop worshiping in temples for some time and worship Bharat Maa and poor people and Modi Ji has taken an initiative in this regard.
Uma Bharti ,While quoting Prime Minster said that he has said what  could not be done in last over 60 years will be done in 60 months. She said country will become rich only when every Indian will be rich.
Speaking on the occasion Ajay Sadhotra also highlighted the salient features of the Yojana and assured full cooperation by the State Government.
The function was attended by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Mr Shantmanu, Regional Director Reserve Bank of India, K K Saraf, Executive president JK Bank Parvez Ahmed.
