JAMMU, Sept 26: Agitated over alleged pick and choose in recently held transfers of Teachers, Masters and Lecturers,  Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum today started three-day chain hunger strike in front of the Directorate of School Education, Jammu.
Amidst raising of slogans, the first batch sat on hunger strike this morning. They   comprised of Ganesh Khajuria, state general secretary of the Forum; Narinder Singh Chib (Tehsil president Jammu), Naresh Kumar (zonal president Arnia) and Bharat Bhushan (secretary Tehsil Jammu).  A number of JKTF members were present on this occasion to show solidarity with the leaders who sat on hunger strike.
While addressing the gathering, the speakers criticized the clear violation of existing transfer norms resorting to pick and choose and favouritism thereby denying the opportunity to those who really deserve it.  They also vowed to continue the struggle till the logical end.
Ganesh Khajuria, while addressing, said that the JKTF had already asked the Education authorities to modify the transfer orders of those Masters/Lecturers who were deserving and need immediate relief. “But the Department paid no heed towards the warning, therefore Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum was forced to sit on hunger strike for three days to press for the early redressal of the demands of aggrieved transferees,” he added.
Some others criticized the apathetic attitude of the Education authorities regarding the redressal of genuine grievances of the teaching fraternity. “A large number of Masters/Lecturers are suffering due to the wrong policies of Education Department and the Department is sitting as a mute spectator and did not show any concern towards mitigating the grievances,” they alleged.
Those who addressed, included Rajinder Gupta, Yog Raj Singh, Gopal Singh, Darshan Sharma, Subash Sharma, Rejeshwar Sambyal, Ram Prashad, Surinder Sharma, Yuv Raj Pathania, Ajay Sambyal, Shankar Singh, Ajit Verma, Devinder Singh, Balraj Singh, Pushp Raj Singh, Rajesh Sharma, Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Hakikat Singh and others.
