Staff suspends work as doctor assaulted in hospital

RAJOURI, Sept 12: The Medical staff in District Hospital Rajouri went on strike after a doctor was assaulted by an attendant of a patient  in the emergency unit of the hospital this morning.
Reports said that 26-year-old Umran, resident of village San Samad was brought to District Hospital Rajouri by his brother Suleman Nazir and another boy with severe stomach pain at around 7.40 am this morning.  Dr Sachin Vaid was attending the patients  in the Emergency unit  and also attended this youth Umran immediately asking this young man  to have some patience and he will get relief after being given an injection. Upon this, his brother and another entered into altercation with the doctor. Then they both started abusing and manhandling the doctor.
The other medical staff also rushed for the rescue of the doctor and they caught hold of Suleman. The other boy escaped from there. The police from nearby Police Post also rushed there and it  arrested Suleman.
The staff then had emergency meeting and suspended work in the hospital as mark of protest. The work remained suspended for about two hours in the entire hospital. Later, Medical Superintendent, Dr  Mehmood pacified the staff and said that accused has been arrested and FIR will also be lodged against him. He told them that the patients should not suffer now as prime accused has been placed in the police lock up. Then the staff resumed duty as around 12 noon.
The police has registered a case FIR No. 398/2017 under Sections 353/332/427 RPC against the accused persons. The cops were looking for another attendant who is still at large.
