SPCB writes to CEO on dumping of garbage near Govt School

JAMMU, Mar 7: State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) today took strong exception to dumping of garbage near Government Primary School, Doda Migrant Basti, Beli Charana in Satwari area of Jammu.
In response to a complaint received in this connection through a public trust “We, The Human”, the Regional Director (RD), SPCB, Shaukat Chowdhary, wrote a letter to Chief Education Officer, Jammu and drew his attention towards the frequent dumping and burning of garbage being carried out near Government Primary School, Doda Migrant Basti, Belicharana.
In the letter, the RD wrote that as per the field report confirmed by the concerned SPCB officer on the basis of complaint received, present situation reflects total ignoring attitude of school authorities and concerned ZEO towards possible environmental and health impacts on innocent children visiting school daily.
Through the letter, the ED requested the CEO to ensure that school premises be not get converted into a dumping yard by preferably fencing the boundary of school/planting trees on all sides as under norms with strict prohibition on burning of waste.
