JAMMU, July 27: Various Sikh organizations condemned the Saharanpur incident, which has taken place on a dispute over a piece of land belonging to a religious place.
Large number of Sikh Community people under the banner of Nirbhao Nirvair Organization assembled outside Gurudwara at Digiana and held protest demonstration against the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Government.
The protestors burnt tyres and also blocked the vehicular movement on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway for around one hour, leading to long traffic snarls. They raised slogans against UP Government and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Addressing the gathering, president of NNO, Harjeet Singh termed the Saharanpur incident in UP as unfortunate. He added that the UP Government has totally failed to control the situation.
He added that during riots, three people lost their lives and property worth crores was damaged and the UP Government and administration including UP police watched all this with open eyes.
“No action was taken by the UP Police against the people involved in killing of three persons and damage of property, which clearly shows that UP Police and the people involved in the riots are hand in glove with each other”, he added.
Singh demanded immediate compensation to those, who lost their property during the riots and action against those, who are involved in riots.
Later, senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators and the vehicular movement was restored.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) also appealed the UP Government to compensate the people, whose property has been damaged in the incident.
Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Sikh Conference Harasis Singh, condemned the Saharanpur riots incident and slammed the Akhilesh Yadav lead Uttar Pradesh Government and district administration of Saharanpur district for their failure to protect the lives of citizens. He called upon all the political parties to join hands so that such communal incidents do not happen in the country. He also demanded a judicial probe in the Saharanpur incident and asked for strictest punishment for all those who incited the violence.
All J&K Sikh Unity Forum (AJKSUF) State President Manpreet Singh has condemned the Saharanpur incident. He demanded immediate action against the culprits’ vis-à-vis compensation to the people, who lost their lives and property in the incident.
