Srinagar, Sept 20: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) today slammed State Government for refusing compensation to a disabled girl who sustained spine injury after being hit by a bullet in neck in Anantnag district of south Kashmir.
A case titled Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, father of Florie Jan, resident of Nepora village of Anantnag in which complainant’s daughter at the age of 13/14 years received bullet injuries in her neck was listed before the Commission’s chairperson Justice (retired) Bill Nazki.
While hearing the case, Justice Nazki observed: “…on the face of it, attitude of the Government is inhuman and barbaric as a young girl became permanently disabled and cannot stand on her legs because of injury sustained in firing of unknown gunmen. She has been given a compensation of Rs. 25,000 for which she cannot even get a good wheel chair. The Government has shown its insenstiveness towards the plight of this young girl by refusing to accept the recommendation of the Commission of paying an amount of Rs. 1 lakh.”
The Chairperson viewed the matter seriously and directed the Commissioner Secretary Home Department to file a detailed report in the matter by or before 01-11-2017. He also directed Commission to send order dated 19-09-2017 passed in the case to Principal Secretary to Chief Minister for CM’s information.
