Rs 1 cr cash looted on NH

KATHUA, Oct 27: Three armed bandits looted Rs one crore cash from a goods carrier at gun point near village Barwal on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in this district late last night.

As per reports, three gunmen intercepted the truck and looted the cash at gun point on busy Jammu-Pathankot National Highway near village Barwal in Kathua district late last night.
Police said a goods carrier bearing Registration No UP 16 CT 6753 loaded with goods was on the way from Montage Industry Pvt Ltd, Bari Brahmana , Jammu to Delhi. When the truck reached near Kathua, it was intercepted by Bolero borne three gunmen and they forced the driver to halt the vehicle at gun point near Barwal Morh on Jammu -Pathankot National Highway late last night.
Police said armed persons asked the driver to open the lock of rear door of truck and looted cash of Rs one crore from the vehicle and fled away from the spot. As per reports, the truck driver was not aware of any cash in the vehicle which he was taking to Delhi. Even the driver had also cash in his hand for enroute expenses. But the Highway robbers did not harm the driver and neither snatched the cash which was in his pocket, police added.
After the looting incident the driver drove to nearby Hatli Morh Police Post and informed the police about the robbery. The Senior Manager of Montage Industry Pvt Ltd, Narinder Chopra reported the matter to Kathua Police during late night and registered a complaint of cash robbery with it.
This is first incident of this type which has taken place in Kathua district on National Highway as cash vans of various banks are frequently moving daily to load the ATMs with huge cash. The incident has raised many questions that where the huge money was being taken, why the huge cash was carried in an ordinary truck instead under security cover and without intimating local police, why the company was sending the cash on road instead through digital or net banking and why the driver was not informed about the same.
The police is investigating the matter. A police team visited the site and has started investigation. The team also visited Bari Brahmana and made enquires and questioning from the company person.
SSP Kathua, Sridhar Patil said that police has so far detained five persons for investigation. The police is investigating the matter on various aspects and theories that why a big amount of Rs one crore was transported in an ordinary truck and who are the robbers behind the crime. The preliminary investigation revealed that the money belonged to three industrialists. He said that the police is investigating the matter seriously and interrogation of suspected persons is going on to ascertain the facts.
