We hail Government’s decision in providing helicopter service for Poonch-Rajouri Districts. This was, no doubt, a long pending demand since the dawn of Independence. Air service is not a matter of luxury for the common masses but its necessity is urgently required at the time of emergency only.
I would like to draw the attention of Aviation Ministry regarding the airfare fixed for Poonch to Jammu i.e Rs 4000 per passenger. This is a very huge amount and beyond the capacity for an ordinary person. The air distance from Poonch to Jammu is much less than the air distance from Jammu to Delhi. The fare from Jammu to Delhi is normally Rs 3000 per passenger. Keeping in view the economic conditions of our masses, backwardness of area, and being a border town, it is suggested that Rs 2500-3000 be fixed as airfare from Poonch to Jammu per passenger. In this way, people will feel somewhat relaxed and shall happily avail of the air facilities on and when needed.
