Police Head Constable convicted in bribery case

SRINAGAR, July 14: A Head Constable of J&K police was convicted today in a bribery case by Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir.
The Head Constable namely Mohammad Ashraf Khan, then posted in police post Bemina, was arrested in a case FIR No 32/2005 at police station VOK.
The case was registered against the accused on the allegations of demanding and accepting a bribe from the complainant namely Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Hassan Wani, resident of Parimpora in connection with submitting of report in respect of the complainant who was arrested by the police post in a criminal case.
After completion of trial of the case, Yeshpal Bourney, District and Sessions Judge Anti corruption Court Srinagar found the accused guilty for commission of offence of criminal misconduct under Section 5(2) of PC Act and sentenced the accused to undergo simple imprisonment for a period of 6 months with a fine of Rs 2000.
“In default of payment of fine the convict shall undergo further imprisonment of 6 weeks”, the order said.
