PM winds up Nepal tour injecting fresh vigour in ties

KATHMANDU :  Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called on President of Nepal Dr Ram Baran Yadav and discussed bilateral  issues of mutual interest before winding up his two-day visit to  this Himalayan nation.
According to official sources, the Nepal President lauded the Prime Minister for having ‘won the hearts of the people of Nepal’ during his two-day visit.
Mr Yadav congratulated Mr Modi on his recent election victory, saying there was now new hope, among India’s neighbours .     He said there was an expectation that the pace of development would increase not just in India, but in all countries of the SAARC region.
He also complimented Mr Modi for his address to the Constituent Assembly, as well as the speech during the banquet hosted by the Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.     He felt both speeches were extraordinary, and signify a new era of friendship between India and Nepal.        Mr Modi’s address in the Assembly was hailed as historic and members had kept on cheering him during the speech which had electrified the atmosphere.
On one occasion, Mr Modi while highlighting significance of Tourism commented the Tourism Trade help ‘chaiwalas’.    The Assembly could not hold emotions and burst into cheers as  Mr Modi was himself a ‘chaiwala’ during childhood .     On the second occasion, the Nepal President said, Mr Modi had won the hearts of the people of Nepal.
With this visit, there is new hope of progress in Nepal, Mr Yadav added.
He said the Nepal Government is hopeful of India’s assistance for the country’s development.
Mr Yadav said Nepal is a sovereign democratic nation, which is now writing its new Constitution.
Mr Modi said he was overwhelmed by the love and affection that he had received from the people of Nepal in the last two days.     He asserted that India respected the sovereignty of Nepal, and was keen to assist in its development.     Noting that India is a federal democratic republic, and Nepal is also now committed to be one, he said the Constitution of Nepal would send a new message to the world, to lay down arms and move forward in a peaceful, democratic manner.     Mr Modi thanked the people of Nepal for the love they had given him during the visit.
Mr Yadav later hosted a lunch for Mr Modi and the Indian delegation.
Mr Modi held discussions with Opposition leaders too and promised India’s full support to their nation’s developmental agenda.
Mr Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the Nepal opposition leader, described his address in the assembly as “highly touching and emotional winning hearts of people” here.
