JAMMU, Oct 3:  Padamshri Padma Sachdev was conferred with the first Dinu Bhai Pant Life-Time Achievement Award at a glittering investiture ceremony, in presence of a galaxy of intellectuals, prominent literary figures and artists, here today.
The award includes a medallion, citation, shawl and a cheque of rupees fifty thousands.
The ceremony, organized by Dogri Sanstha Jammu, was presided over by Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University while Prof P K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, was the chief guest.
Padma Sachdev, responding to conferment of the honour on her, made a strong plea to the people of Dogra region to respect their mother tongue Dogri by speaking it with the younger generation. She fondly remembered her association with the legendary poet Dinu Bhai Pant in whose memory this award has been instituted.
Prof R D Sharmaa   said that Dinu Bhai Pant is one of those few Dogri poets whose name is known all over the Dogra region and the state.  Prof P K Sharma urged upon the modern generation of poets to carry on the rich heritage of literary traditions of writers like Dinu Bhai Pant and Padma Sachdev.
Earlier, Dr Manoj, president of Dinu Bhai Pant Memorial Trust, shared the aims and objectives of the Trust established by sons and daughters of Dinu Bhai Pant.
Chhatrapal, president of Dogri Sanstha, said that ascent of Dinu Bhai Pant on the literary scenario in early forties was perhaps one of the most significant event in the history of Dogri literature and its renaissance.
Prof Veena Gupta spoke about the achievements of Padma Sachdev. On this occasion, a book of Dogri translation of English play of William Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ by Madan Gopal Padha was also released.
In second part of the ceremony,  a brilliant presentation of  Dinu Bhai Pant’s play ‘Sarpanch’ designed by Kumar A Bharti and directed by exceptionally talented Abhishek Bharti of Natraj Natya Kunj,  was staged presenting the saga of folk hero Data Ranpat who made supreme sacrifice at the altar of justice.
The whole programme was anchored and conducted by Prof. Lalit Magotra.
