Excelsior Correspondent
UDHAMPUR, July 1: State general secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Pawan Khajuria today warned the opposition parties for politicking on Devika issue and misleading the people for their vested interests.
Talking to reporters here, Khajuria said the leaders of these parties are least bothered for conservation of the Devika and had it been so during their over 65 year rule they would have taken steps for conservation of the holy Devika which is the elder sister of river Ganga and has a lot of religious significance for Hindus in Northern India.
Khajuria said but God has entrusted this pious responsibility on the shoulders of Narendra Modi and the holy river was waiting for the day when he will take up as PM of this country to order the conservation of the river under National River Rejuvenation Project.
He said instead of politicking over the river and misleading people by making bogus statements, the leaders of Congress and NC owe an explanation to people that why they failed to initiate any project for the rejuvenation of the river during 65 years of their rule in the State as well as Centre.
Giving full credit to the Union Minister in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh who is also the MP from Kathua, Udhampur and Doda Parliamentary Constituency, he said it was with his enormous efforts that this  as well as many other game changer projects were brought for the State in general and this Parliamentary Constituency in particular.
He said Devika is first river in North India which has come under the River Rejuvenation Project launched by the Centre and for the same the permission was taken from IIT Rurkee (Utrakhand). He said after being approved by the IIT and clearance given the Urban Environment Engineering Department and Local Bodies Department jointly framed its DPR which amounted to Rs 197.75 crore.
He said the tenders will be called within one month and work will be started after that.  He said not only Devika but many other projects have been sanctioned in this Parliamentary Constituency in general and Udhampur district in particular with the efforts of Dr Jitendra Singh.
He said out of 3800 crore sanctioned for construction of roads 1700 crore were earmarked for this Constituency. Besides, many more developmental projects are in pipeline, he added.
He said the Local MP is doing lot of work and visiting every nook and corner of the Constituency to take the stock of the developmental works sanctioned by the Government and for redressal of peoples problems.
