Mehbooba playing communal card to foment trouble: BJP

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Jan 21: Castigating the statement of PDP president & former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti about Gujjar and Bakerwal community in Jammu, BJP today maintained that people of Jammu province have always maintained communal harmony and never fallen a prey to the divisive politics on the basis of region, religion and caste.
BJP state spokesperson, Balbir Ram Rattan while strongly reacting to Mehbooba’s statement said the Kashmir centric regional party, the PDP always tried to play communal card in this peaceful region and adopted the politics of provocation to foment trouble which is highly condemnable.
While refuting the allegation of Mehbooba Mufti that Tribals and Muslims are being selectively targeted in Jammu, Balbir said that she is trying to create a wrong impression in the minds of people of these faiths, which is nothing but a political gimmick and needs to be countered by one and all.
The BJP spokesman said that Gujjars and Dogras are an inseparable part of Jammu’s society and system and all the communities live amiably here for ages. However, leaders like Mehbooba are hell bent to create communal fissures and a rift between them. It is indeed bad omen for the people of the State that a leader who has ruled the State as CM is appeasing a particular section and indulging in lies just for the sake of consolidating vote bank. Even as CM, she tried to please separatists and those carrying gun for killings and destruction. It would not be wrong to say that she is also glorifying terror and working to demoralize security forces and pro-India forces.
Balbir reminded people of the State that it is same Mehbooba who never misses any chance to play communal card. “It is not for the first time she has tried to indulge in such game, as similar hue and cry was raised by her when the Union Government announced to establish Sainik Colony in Srinagar”. She was also in the front line to oppose and communalise the decision of setting up of migrant colony in Valley for the displaced Kashmiri Pandits.
The spokesperson said that the people are themselves giving befitting reply to the PDP by living in peace and harmony in this region. What substantiates this is that during the months of Winter in particular, a large number of people from Ladakh, Kashmir and hilly areas of Jammu province come to Jammu city and adjoining areas. Thousands of Muslim employees from Kashmir too are in Jammu with darbar move. The people of Jammu always welcome them and they live here as a family. In such an atmosphere when there is total peace and communal harmony, leaders like Mehbooba Mufti are making efforts to mislead Tribals and Muslims for cheap politics.
