JAMMU, Jan 21: DIET Jammu organized two- day ‘Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) awards Manak-2018’ exhibition here at Government Girls High School, Gandhi Nagar and Teachers Bhawan, Jammu.
Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, was chief guest in the valedictory function and distributed prizes to 50 students, selected for State level. The Mayor appreciated the Education Department for organizing such type of events which are very beneficial for general masses and encourage the participants to show their talent.
Earlier, the Exhibition was inaugurated by Anuradha Gupta, Director School Education Jammu. Joint Director (Trgs)/Principal SIE Jammu J K Sudan and Roshan Lal, Principal DIET Jammu, were also present on the occasion.
Anuradha Gupta said, “The aim of INSPIRE award MANAK is to foster a culture of creative and innovative ideas among students to address the problems of the society through Science and Technology. We have to create scientific temperament among students by getting new and creative ideas from them.”
The exhibition displayed 585 innovative science models prepared by students of both Government and private schools of District Jammu.
Total of 3,250 innovative ideas were uploaded on the web portal of Department of Science and Technology, out of which 585 ideas were selected for district level. Each student received Rs 10,000 to prepare the models on the innovative ideas registered on the web portal.
An independent jury, comprising experts in the field of Physics, Chemistry and Electronics were drawn from colleges to adjudge the innovative models. Ten per cent of the models from district were selected by the jury to participate at the State level.
Speaking on the occasion, Roshan Lal, Principal DIET Jammu said, “INSPIRE Awards-MANAK” is one of the flagship programs conceptualized and executed to attract talent and expose to science at an early age of 10-15 years.
