JAMMU, July 11: State VHP has accused the State Government of total security lapses that led to the killing of seven Amarnath pilgrims by militants yesterday.
Talking to reporters here today, the VHP State chief, advocate Leela Karan Sharma also criticized the Government for saying that the yatra bus was not registered. The authorities are making this statement to save their own skin, he added.
He said how is it possible that a pilgrim bus crosses Lakhanpur leaves for Base Camp of Baltal and the pilgrims return after the darshan at holy cave were unregistered. This way Government was only trying to mislead the people, he added.
The attack on the bus was the major security lapse for which the Government should own responsibility, he said.
The VHP chief said that on June 12 the VHP international joint general secretary, Dr Surinder Jain had called on both Governor, N N Vohara  and Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti and had demanded that one Minister be specially made in charge of Amarnath yatra to monitor it and deal with the arrangements and security issues. But this has not been done, he added.
He also took serious exception to recommendation made by the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) to grant Rs 10 lakh to the person who was made the human shield by army to save the blood shed in Kashmir.
He while praising the Army Major Gogoi said that he by such an in time action saved the common masses, the security forces as well as stone pelters. The SHRC has no right to recommend the compensation to army’s human shield as the money is the hard earned money of Indian tax payer.
Major Gogoi deserves all praises for his action, he said and added that SHRC should take a suo motto notice of the killing of yatris and sanction the same amount for them also.
Leela Karan said that Sandeep Kumar Sharma a youth from Muzafar Nagar, UP who was involved in terrorist activities in Kashmir is being projected as a Hindu when he has converted to Islam since. Had he been a Hindu he would have never been involved in terrorism but he is a converted Muslim and Government was also misleading the people on this account, he added.
The VHP chief said that Bajrang Dal (BD) activists held protests all over the country at district head quarters today against the killing of Amarnath pilgrims.
