Land grabbers let loose reign of terror in Sainik Colony

JAMMU, Aug 14: The aggrieved Ex-Servicemen , their widows and dependents have demanded action against the land mafia who has grabbed the houses and plots of Ex-Servicemen in Sainik Colony and created a reign of terror.
Talking to reporters here, today, K S Jasrotia, Khajoor Singh and Hav (retd) Lav Singh said that the land mafia has created a reign of terror in Sainik Colony by encroaching the plots and demolishing the houses constructed by the ex-servicemen or the boundary walls of plots in connivance with police and Revenue officials.
They said the plots were allotted to the ex-servicemen 30 to 40 years back at Sainik Colony by the Cooperative House Building Society Jammu. They said all the dues were paid by the plot holders in this regard.
They said the issue of encroachments made by land grabbers and demolishing of houses was brought in the notice of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, District Development Commissioner, Jammu and Registrar Societies Jammu number of times but to no avail.
They said the land was awarded by Government to Sainik Colony in the year 1970 for use of Defense personnel and ex -servicemen and the widows of the Sainiks  as it was totally meant for them. The land was also handed over to Sainik Colony in the same year by Revenue authorities and the cost of the land was deposited by the Society in the account of Revenue Department.
They said that the land mafia have demolished some houses and the boundary walls. About 75 people have constructed their houses in the area while 70 have only constructed boundary walls around their plots and were unable to construct the houses due to shortage of money.
In an appeal to authorities, the Ex-servicemen demanded action against the land mafia who in connivance with revenue authorities and police are harassing the ex-servicemen, widows of Purav Sainiks and their dependents.
