Kingpin of fake currency racket, drugs supplier arrested

JAMMU, July 4: Gangyal police arrested a drugs supplier and a kingpin of fake currency racket, and recovered banned syrup bottles and Rs 51,500 counterfeit currency from their possession.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Gangyal Police Station laid a naka near Kunjwani Chowk and asked a pedestrian to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the pedestrian escaped from the spot and entered into a by lane. Stinking something fishy, the cops searched several by lanes near the naka point and finally nabbed the pedestrian.
During frisking, police recovered Rs 51,500 fake currency in the denomination of Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 500 and arrested the accused, who happens to be the kingpin of the fake currency racket. The accused has been identified as Romesh Kumar, son of Bhajan Lal, a resident of Chak Bala, tehsil RS Pura, district Jammu.
It is pertinent to mention here that the accused was also involved in FIR Numbers 32/17 and 238/17 under Sections 489 and 489-C registered with Miran Sahib and Bishnah Police Stations, respectively.
A fresh case under FIR Number 55/18 under Sections 489 and 489-C has been registered at police station Gangyal and investigation started to arrest other members of the racket.
Meanwhile, on reliable information, a team from Gangyal police station laid another naka near Fuwara Chowk and signaled a Pulsar motorcycle to stop for checking. However, instead of stopping the vehicle, the driver accelerated it and tried to escape, but the active cops intercepted the vehicle after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 175 bottles of banned syrup from the possession of the rider and arrested him. The arrested person has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, son of Paras Ram, a resident of Pallanwala, tehsil Akhnoor, district Jammu.
During questioning, the accused disclosed that he had brought the consignment from Punjab for selling among the youth in Jammu and its outskirts.
It is to mention here that a case under FIR Number 47/17 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act stands registered against the accused at Gandhi Nagar police station.
A fresh case under FIR Number 56/18 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gangyal police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal, SI Nayat Ali and assisted by Incharge, Greater Kailash police post, SI Vicky Thappa made the arrests under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
