Srinagar, Sept 23: Two militants were killed as Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district while a top commander of Jaish-e-Muhammad was killed in Tral area of South Kashmir today.
Two militants were killed in an encounter near the LoC in Tanghdar sector of Kupwara today. A soldier was injured in an encounter with militants near the LoC in the same sector yesterday after Army foiled an infiltration bid by a group of militants.
The troops of Army’s 20 JAT challenged the movement of a group of at least five militants near Eagle Post along the LoC early yesterday after they noticed movement of a group of militants infiltrating into the sector.
The troops deployed near the fence challenged the infiltrators leading to a brief exchange of fire. The reinforcements were rushed to the area and a massive operation was launched against the militant group. Two militants were killed in an encounter this evening while three more militants are hiding in the area. Army is tracking their movement and has tightened the cordon so as to prevent them from fleeing. Click here to watch video
Two AK-47 rifles, magazines and war like stores were recovered from the two killed militants. Sources said that they belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
An Army spokesman said here that the troops in Tanghdar sector foiled an infiltration bid killing two militants. He said that operation in the area is in progress.
A senior Army officer said that around 250 militants are waiting on launch pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). He said that there would be increased attempts of infiltration in next one month before the snow closes the passes.
In the meantime, security forces today killed a JeM commander in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. One Army personnel and a civilian were injured near the encounter site.
Security forces this morning cordoned off Aripal area of Tral, after inputs about presence of militants in the village. During search operation of the village, the militant opened fire on the troops leading to an encounter.
One militant was killed in the encounter and huge quantity of arms, ammunition and incriminating material was recovered from the site of encounter. The killed militant was identified as Adnan of Pakistani origin and was commander of the JeM operating in the area.
A civilian identified as Manzoor Dar from Tral sustained injuries at the encounter site. He was evacuated to nearby hospital for treatment and his condition is stable. One security force personnel was injured in the encounter. He has been hospitalised and is stated to be stable. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter.
And last night, militants barged into the house of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, 45, son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Harwan area in Bomia, Sopore and abducted him. Mushtaq works as a local labour.
Police have registered a case and a search has been launched to track him. Further investigation into the matter is going on.
