IGNOU offers full fee exemption to transgender candidates

JAMMU, July 10: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has decided to give full fee exemption to transgender candidates in all its academic programmes with an aim to integrate this special group into the mainstream.
The study material will also be provided to these candidates free of cost. The candidates have to produce a certificate from the Central or State Government or a medical officer to be eligible for the exemption, or they can submit copy of their Aadhaar Card.
“This move not only helps transgender to get education free of cost but will also help them to get an inclusive environment”, said Dr Joginder Kumar Yadav, Regional Director, Regional Centre Jammu.
The last date of admission for certificate programmes has already been extended till July 15, 2017 and for rest of the programmes offered through common prospectus, the last date of admission is July 31, 2017.
