Home for Aged and Infirm celebrates birth anniversary of its founder

JAMMU, July 9: Home for the Aged and Infirm here today celebrated the 118th birth anniversary of its founder Ram Nath Prabhakar.
Hawan and other rituals were performed on this occasion and clothes were distributed among the inmates of the Home. Apart from this cash incentives were also given to each worker and the celebrations concluded with the inmates having lunch together with the invited guests.
After paying tributes to the Home founder, I.D Soni, State Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides lauded his services.
Soni said that after his retirement from the post of Headmaster, Ram Nath Prabhakar devoted his life in the service of poor and aged destitute infirm members of the society.
He called Prabhakar a great visionary who could foresee the necessity of such a Home for the elderly people in the ever changing society.
A handout stated that the Home was established on June 8, 1964 with mere one room on a piece of land obtained from Ved Mandir Committee on lease. Now, it has two full fledged buildings facing each other with a capacity of 90 aged persons. Presently it has 50 inmates.
The Home runs on charity and donations by the public and some organisations and ensures that the inmates get love and affection apart from all other necessary facilities like good food, medical care etc.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion included representatives from social organisations like Swami Vivekananda Charitable Mission Hospital, J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, Bal/Balika Niketan, Ved Mandir, Indian Red Cross Society, Help Age India, Gandhi Global Family, Sewa Bharti, Association for Social Health in India, Gao Raksha Samiti, J&K Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens, prominent donors besides Patron Prem Gupta, Vice President, H.S Manhas, Managing Committee Member, Punit Nanda, Mrs Nirmala Zutshi, R.C Vaid, Mrs Sakina Bano, Dinesh Gupta also participated in the function.
Honorary Secretary of the Home, Vijay Bhagotra conducted the proceedings of the function and expressed gratitude to the participants for success of the programme.
He also took the visiting prominent persons to a round of the Home and informed them about various facilities for the inmates there.
