Srinagar, Apr 20: Top separatist leader and Hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani today urged Government to defer Anantnag by-poll scheduled next month, saying there were “apprehensions of escalations in terrifying incidents in the Valley”.
Geelani in a statement said instead of elections, Government of India need to respect the aspirations of people and resolve Kashmir issue. Urging authorities to cancel bye-election on Anantnag parliamentary constituency, he said: “It is required to make an end to incessant bloodshed and instead seek people’s mandate with respect to political destiny of state through referendum.”
Geelani said people in Kashmir are peace loving and believe in mutual harmony and brotherhood. “However instead of addressing their issues, Indian authorities are resorting to brute force against people,” he alleged.
