JAMMU, Feb 28: Chairman of Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra today welcomed the new faces who were elected recently to the Upper House on the first day of the Budget Session which commenced here today.
These new members are Dr Shahnaz Ganai, Ali Mohd Dar both from National Conference and Ghuman Nabi Monga and Sham Lal Bhagat-both from Congress Party. While Dr Ganai and Mr Bhagat belonged to Jammu region, Mr Monga and Mr Dar are from Kashmir.
While complementing the members, the Chairman said that after a long gap of 32 years election to the four Panchayat seats were successfully conducted in the State. He hoped that elected members will take active part in all the Council proceedings and project the issues of Panchs, Sarpanchs who elected them and the common masses. Mr Malhotra also congratulated Minister for Planning and Development Ajay Kumar Sadhotra for his nomination as leader of the House.
The Chairman also took serious note of absence of officers from the Gallery of the Upper House and directed the Minister (Mr Sadhotra) to ensure presence of the officers during proceedings in the House.
