Anganwadi Workers to go on mass casual leave on Apr 17

JAMMU, Mar 25: Seeking release of their pending salary and highlighting other demands, the Anganwadi Workers in Jammu and Kashmir will go on mass casual leave,   besides holding protest rallies and demonstrations across Jammu on April 17.
This was announced by Swarna Choudhary, president of Anganwadi Workers Welfare Association, while addressing a press conference, here today. She informed that decision in this regard was taken in working committee meeting of the Association, which is a unit of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh.
“For the last eight months, the Government has not released salaries of the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers, who are performing multiple tasks besides their primary job and facing exploitation,” she said and also highlighted other demands, which include hike in salary from Rs 3500 to Rs 15000 for Anganwadi Workers and Rs 10000 from Rs 1800 for Helpers, declaring Anganwadi Workers as Government employees, enforcement of EPF, ESI and pension scheme, payment of TA DA to attend meetings.
She also demanded supply of good nutrition, quarterly fuel charges, promotion for Anganwadi Workers and wage books for them.
Ashok Choudhary, State general secretary of the Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, who was present in the press conference, also highlighted grievances of the Anganwadi Workers and alleged exploitation of female workers, who are paid very less wages against the multiple works, like data collection and registration for Ladli Beti, Kishori Shakti Yojana, Aadhaar Card, Ration Card and election duty etc, performed by them.
The press conference was also addressed by senior BMS leader Lakshman Ravinder Singh, Neelam Sharma, Koushallya Devi, Kamlesh Kumari, Chint Purni, Veena Devi, Perseno Devi, Jyoti Sumbria and others.
