SRINAGAR, Mar 25: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today wrote to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and sought action against senior Congress leader Tariq Hamid Karra over his ‘communal speech to polarize situation’.
“There is a newspaper report that the newly entrant of Congress party, Tariq Hamid Karra has tried to vitiate the peace and create communal hatred in the State ahead of crucial by-polls on two important Lok Sabha seats,” the letter written to CEO by BJP’s Srinagar Election Incharge, Asif Masoodi, reads.
In his letter, Masoodi said Karra was speaking during a party function at Nawai-e-Subh complex last week and he had termed fight against the incumbent PDP and BJP as ‘Jihad’ and those fighting against them as ‘Mujahideen’.
“He has also said that Islam is under threat and every Muslim is duty bound to do Jihad…This is an attempt to polarize the situation and creating wedge against different faiths,” Masoodi said in his letter and sought action the Karra, who until last year was associated with PDP.
“We wrote letter today and so far there has been no response from the CEO,” Masoodi told Excelsior.
