Only 587 pilgrims pay obeisance at holy cave shrine, yatra remain suspended

SRINAGAR: The annual yatra to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas remained suspended for the second day on Saturday from Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam tracks due to slippery road conditions and landslides, triggered by rains.

However 587 pilgrims who had managed to reach cave shrine through limited helicopter sorties and by foot had paid obeisance today, an official spokesman said here this evening. He said keeping in view the safety of Yatris, the Yatra remained suspended today because of landslides, slippery tracks and shooting stones caused by incessant rainfall. The Yatra remained suspended on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes, he said. (AGENCIES)
