Workshop on ‘Capacity Building of Women Managers’ begins at JU

JU VC delivering inaugural address at the 6-day workshop on Thursday.

JAMMU, Apr 25: Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar today inaugurated six- day UGC sponsored training of trainers workshop on “Capacity Building of Women Managers in Higher Education” at the University of Jammu.
In his inaugural address Prof Ishar stressed upon the need to train the women educators and to make them competent enough to hold managerial positions in higher educational institutions. He said that women managers in Higher Education can complement the efforts of men equally for qualitative change of the system thus ensuring gender equality. He asked the women educators to come forward and prove their capabilities.
Earlier, Prof Poonam Dhawan in her welcome address chalked out the underlying objective of organising the workshop for the women academicians who are heavily under represented in the policy and the decision making in governing and administration of higher educational intuitions.
Prof Nilofar Khan, Dean Students Welfare, University of Kashmir and Resident Coordinator of the Programme also spoke on the occasion.
Prof Pam Rajput, Founding Director, Department of Women Studies, Punjab University and Core Group Recourse Person of the Program, said that it is necessary to train women in Higher Education for capacity building to become managers in order to participate in policy and decision making.
Later Prof Shuseela Kaushik, Co-chairperson National Consultative Committee deliberated upon the goals and objectives of the workshop.
In the six days workshop, eight Resourse Persons and 27delegates from Kashmir, Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pardesh are participating.
Among others present on the occasion were Prof K G Uma from Bangalore University and Core Group Resource Person, Prof Helen Joseph from the College of Social Work, Nirmala Nikaten, Mumbai, and Key Trainer of the Programme.
