VOK books Enggs in meters case

JAMMU, Aug 23: The Vigilance Organization Kashmir (VOK) has registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act on outcome of verification into the allegations that PHE Rural Mechanical Division, Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal had purchased 13 trivectro meters at an exorbitant rate.
During verification conducted by VOK, it was revealed that erstwhile Executive Engineer PHE Rural Mechanical Division Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal namely Farooq Ahmad Utoo (now retired) in connivance with the then AEE PHE Rural Mechanical Division Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal namely  Jasbeer Singh and the then  PHE Rural Mechanical Division Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal namely Mohammad Yousuf Indrabi had  purchased 13 of trivectro meters at an exorbitant rates in the year 2012-13 for Rs 28.35 lakh and thus caused loss to the State exchequer to the tune of Rs 15.61 lakh.
This way, the accused also caused wrongful gain to  the suppliers– M/s Bashir Brothers Maisuma, Srinagar and M/s Srinagar Mechanical Works College Road, Wazirbagh, Srinagar
Accordingly a case FIR No 23/207 has been registered against all the accused and further investigations taken up.
Meanwhile, Vigilance Organization, Jammu has produced challan against Verinder Kumar, Tehsil Ramnagar in District Udhampur.
A written complaint was lodged by Kunj Lal of Ramnagar with Vigilance Organization, Jammu alleging therein that a land dispute case between the complainant and his sister namely Parma was settled in favour of the complainant by the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur.
In this regard, an application was submitted by the complainant to then Tehsildar Ramnagar for implementation of the said order. But the accused showed reluctance and demanded Rs 5000 from the complainant as bribe for implementation of the said order.
During the investigation, a successful trap was laid against the accused Naib Tehsildar by the vigilance sleuths and he was caught red handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
The tainted bribe amount of Rs.5000 was recovered from the possession of the accused.
After completion of all the legal formalities the accused Naib Tehsildar was arrested and subsequently he was bailed out by the court. During the investigation, the accused was examined, but he failed to give any plausible explanation in support of his defence.
After completion of the investigation, the case was processed for accord of Government sanction and accordingly after obtaining necessary Government sanction, challan  of the case was produced against the accused before the court of Special, Judge Anti-Corruption, Udhampur  for his Judicial determination.
