MENDHAR, Apr 17: The villagers from Balakote and adjoining areas held protest demonstration and blocked road at Dhar Galoon after local office of Tehsildar Balakote was found locked during the mid day today.
The villagers from Balakore Forward, Basuni, Darati, Panjni, Sohala and of adjoining areas had arrived at the office of Tehsildar Balakote in connection with their Revenue related works and also preparing Adhar Cards. They found office locked. They kept waiting there for some time and then moved to Dhar Galoon and sat on dharna on Mendhar-Jammu road.
The movement of vehicles was disrupted for more than two hours. They shouted slogans against State Revenue authorities and the Sub Divisional and District Administration, Mendhar and Poonch. Then the SDPO Shahid Nahiem along with police party arrived there. He talked to Additional DC, Poonch on phone who assured to hold inquiry into the matter. He said post of Tehsildar is lying vacant and Naib Tehsildar Mohd Ashfaq has been holding the charge. On the assurance of ADC Poonch then the people lifted dharna and allowed movement of the vehicles.
