KATHUA, July 15: People of village Rakha today staged a protest against Power Development Department (PDD) and blocked the border road near Rakha Naka point.
The protest was taken out against non-supply of electricity for last four days. All the villagers, mostly women and children today at about 11 am gathered near Rakha Naka point and staged protest demonstration against PDD.
The protestors also blocked the road near Naka point for about one hour and disrupted vehicular traffic. They alleged that the power transformer of the area broke-down four days ago but despite assurances by concerned PDD officials/officers, the transformer was not replaced.
They said that in this hot and humid weather, they are without power for last four days but officials of PDD are not paying heed to their repeated requests to replace the faulty transform with a new one.
Later, officers of police department and PDD including Deputy SP Samba, Tanvir Jalani and SHO, police station Samba, Inspector Yash Jamwal, reached the spot and pacified the protesting people by assuring them restoration of power supply by tomorrow, following which protesting people lifted the blockade.
