After playing glamorous supporting characters in films like Nautanki Saala and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Evelyn Sharma is finally making it to the lead. Post her recently released film Yaariyan, she now has Main Tera Hero and Bhaiyyaji Superhit in her kitty. Sreya Basu chats up with the actress on films, kickboxing and lust at first sight.
Considering you are half-German half-Indian, how tough was it get a foothold in Bollywood without a godfather?
It was tough but by the grace of God and with a lot of hard work it happened.
It’s been just a year in Bollywood and you already have your bag full of projects, how has your experience been so far?
It’s been an amazing experience. Sometimes it really feels like a roller coaster ride with all ups and downs, but that rush you just don’t get in any other job!
You were seen doing bikini scenes in your just-released film Yaariyan. How comfortable are you in bikinis?
I love bikinis for swimming and tanning. However after shooting for a music video, I would say only a bikini should not be worn for dancing. Always pair it with shorts, a top or a sarong.
You have so far shared screens with well-known faces of Bollywood. How was your experience working with debutant co-stars in the film?
It was fun but also a bit stressful. Even though this was the second movie I had signed about two years back, it turned out to be my fifth movie to shoot. It was the first movie for the rest of the cast so naturally the new experience came with all its dramas. Luckily we all got along great though and it really felt like a class trip. My favourite is Serah Singh who is also the youngest. At 19 she is making her debut with Yaariyan and has done an outstanding job. Besides that she has become one of my best friends in real life too!
What are your forthcoming projects?
I am doing David Dhawan’s multi-starrer Main Tera Hero with Varun Dhawan, Anupam Kher and Illeana D’Cruz; as well as Neeraj Pathak’s Bhaiyyaji Superhit with Sunny Deol and opposite Arshad Warsi.
As you are born and brought up in Germany, how do you manage to rehearse your dialogues in Hindi?
I put in some extra effort and learn the language. I think if I want to work in Hindi films then obviously I have to speak Hindi.
Other than acting and modeling – what hobbies do you have?
Kickboxing is one of my favourite hobbies. It is a perfect anger and stress relieve.
What advice do you have for all the young girls who want to make it big in modeling and acting?
It’s not a piece of cake. So think twice! But if u get ur foot in, its the best job in the world.
Whats the one thing you don’t like about the industry?
It’s politics.

I can cook potato in 15 different forms!
Do you believe in love at first sight? Or its just lust at first sight?
Lust at first sight. True love comes with time.
What is your idea of a perfect date? Any dream man you want to go along with?
I’m a hopeless romantic so I like everything from long walks on the beach, candle light dinners and dancing under the stars. A perfect gentleman to go along with it.
Who is the hottest man in your life?
My co-star Varun Dhawan. His abs are out of this world!
