Various organizations demand holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary

JAMMU, Sept 17: Various organizations demanded State holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh falling on September 23.
The executive body of the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) and All Jammu Civil Society Forum (AJCSF) held a meeting under the chairmanship of Sabha President Gulchain Singh Charak. Keeping in view the sentiments of the general public and Dogras in particular, all members unanimously resolved to observe September 23 as a holiday to celebrate the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Emperor of the Dogra dynasty.

DSS exhorted all Dogras, Students’ Organizations, Teachers’ Associations, Schools and Colleges Associations, J&K High Court Bar Association, NGOs, business establishments, trade and commerce units to celebrate September 23 as Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary to pay tributes to Maharaja. The DSS also called upon all, autonomous bodies and public sector undertakings to observe September 23 as a holiday. Among others present were Prof NK Dogra, Prem Sagar Gupta, Major General Goverdhan S Jamwal, GA Khajawa, Janak Khajuria, Brig MS Jamwal, Madan Rangila, Colonel Dr Virender Kumar, Syed Amanat Ali, Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, S Peter, Ravi Singh, Choudhary Chuni, Dr Raghubir Singh, Kulbir Singh, RK Sharma, Amrik Karamyogi, Hari Om Singh, Chhankar, Pradeep Mahajan and KP Singh.
Jammu Warriors Front (JWF) today asked the State Government to take a positive action on its demand that September 23, the birth anniversary of last Dogra king Maharaja Hari Singh, be declared a State holiday. Rajesh Gupta President JWF said that all political parties, social organizations and everyone wants holiday on September 23 as a mark of respect for the great Maharaja. Rajesh Gupta asked the Government to declare holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary or face agitation.
National Secular Forum (NSF) warned of an agitation if the State Government failed to declare September 23, the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, a State holiday. Addressing the press-conference, Dr Vikas Sharma said that the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh would be celebrated in a large way across Jammu province by organizing functions and distributing sweets. He also appealed to all students, irrespective of caste and religion, to celebrate the Maharaja’s birthday. Dr Sharma warned of series of agitation programmes if the State Government failed to declare State holiday on September 23. Among others present were Sukhdev Singh, Rishikesh Rana, Pardeep Sharma, Rahul Sharma and Anshu Sharma.
In continuation of its ongoing drive to garner mass support for announcement of State holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, Yuva Rajput Sabha took out a rally at Gho Manhasan. A large number of people participate in the rally which was held under the leadership of Yuva Rajput Sabha President Rajveer Singh. During the rally, the participant took pledge to continue the struggle till the Government declares State holiday on the Maharaja’s birthday. They also threatened to ghearo the Ministers and MLAs to lodge the protest against delaying tactics of the Government in announcing the State holiday on September 23. Raghubir Singh, Sanjeev Singh, Surinder Singh, Rajinder Singh, Rajan Singh, Mukesh Singh, Daljeet Singh, Rohit Singh, Raghu Singh, Ranjeet Singh, Prem Singh and many others were present on the occasion.
Shri Bawa Bhair Decsthan Trust held a meeting under the chairmanship of its President Balwant Singh and demanded gazetted holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh falling on September 23. General Secretary Romesh Sharma, Subash Shastri, Capt Lalit Sharma, Advocate PC Sharma, Om Parkash Sharma, Kirpal Singh, Girdhari Lal Sharma and many others were present in the meeting.
