Unidentified miscreants snatch taxi from driver

UDHAMPUR, July 12: Some unidentified miscreants snatched a taxi from its driver after throwing him out of the vehicle, here last night.
The incident took place on the National Highway, under the jurisdiction of Rehambal Police Station. The taxi, bearing registration number JK01U-6612 (Maruti Artica), was hired by the accused at BC Road Jammu for Srinagar.
The taxi driver, identified as Gulam Jalani (42), son of Sher Mohd Jaweda of Kudar, Handwara, Srinagar, was found lying on roadside in a semi unconscious condition and was brought to District Hospital Udhampur by Police.
In his statement to the Police, he stated that a group of six persons, including a female, had hired his taxi and on reaching near Chak Morh Udhampur, the passengers offered him a cold drink, which was mixed with some sedative drug. Immediately after consuming the cold drink, he felt drowsiness after which, the accused passengers kicked him out from the vehicle and fled away along with his Taxi.
According to Inspector Sanjeev Chib, SHO Rehambal Police Station, the Taxi driver was still admitted in the hospital and not fully fit for giving statement. Though message in this regard has been flashed, more details would be ascertained after the taxi driver fully recovers, he added.
