JAMMU, Mar 27: Terming the resolution passed by UK Parliament which condemned the efforts of Pakistan to include the territory of Gilgit and Baltistan into Pakistan as the fifth province a bold initiative , Panun Kashmir (PK) today said the categorical Parliamentary assertion in the resolution that the State of Pakistan has been in possession of this territory illegally from 1947 is a matter of great satisfaction.
“Panun Kashmir welcomes the Resolution passed by the UK Parliament condemning the efforts of the Pakistan regime to include the territory of Gilgit and Baltistan into Pakistan as its fifth province”, PK president Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo told reporters here today.
He said PK, which represents the geo-political aspirations of the indigenous people of Kashmir-the displaced community of Kashmiri Pandits comprising seven hundred thousand members, expressed its special compliments to the Parliamentarian Bob Blackman of the Conservative Party for his bold initiative to move this historical resolution of great political value.
Chrungoo said moreover, it is also a huge victory for the Government of India on the front of its international diplomatic initiatives. The resolution has also said that Gilgit-Baltistan is legally and constitutionally a part of Indian State of Jammu & Kashmir and the citizens of this area have no fundamental amenities and the freedom of expression available to them. It further said that any demographic change here will add further tensions in this disputed area, he added.
Panun Kashmir appealed to the Government of India to push its efforts further in order to bring the “intent of the State of Pakistan” under international diplomatic scanner.
Prof. M.L.Raina, Chairman, Political Affairs Committee PK expressed serious concern over the issue of illegal immigration of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in Jammu region. He said that there is an imperative need to bring out a report on the subject stating clearly as to how these illegal immigrations took place at all and who were responsible for their transportation and settlement in a sensitive border State. “We urged the State Government to urgently complete the process of having an in-depth study of the situation and also include the members of the civil society in its efforts and come out with the report so that the necessary steps for their deportation are undertaken”., he added.
Virender Raina, national spokesperson, PK said that the time has come when the political class of the State has to take a call regarding the passage of the all important Temples and Shrines Bill in the coming session of the Assembly. The political conditions as they obtain in the State do not inspire much confidence in the displaced community regarding the safety and preservation of the temples in Kashmir. The passage of the Bill would be the biggest and the foremost confidence building measure and would also instill a sense of belonging among the displaced community, he added.
