Two-day Intach Heritage Education Workshop concludes

UDHAMPUR, Apr 23: Two-day Intach Heritage Education Workshop concluded at Government Degree College.
Additional District Development Commissioner Udhampur Vikas Sharma was the chief guest whereas Prof Nutan K Resutra, Nodal Principal GGM Science College Jammu presided over the programme.
Organised by INTACH Jammu Chapter in collaboration with Heritage Club of the College, the workshop was attended by 70 school and college teachers of 32 educational institutions of Udhampur.
The objective was to set up Intach Heritage Clubs in educational institutions of Udhampur in addition to inculcate awareness and appreciation of the heritage of our city, State and country, motivate teachers to use appropriate resource material in classroom teaching, motivate teachers to play an effective role in sensitizing children about heritage, help teachers to organize hands on activities and to increase the use of multimedia including websites, films, DVDs.
Vikas Sharma said that teachers have immense role in imparting values especially cultural-heritage ethics. It seems from the presentations made here that the workshop has been successful in creating a tremendous response from the participants. District administration is always there to support this cause”, he added.
Dr NK Resutra said that young minds need to be sensitized and involved to generate a consciousness regarding the promotion, preservation and conservation of tangible and intangible heritage”, he added.
Prof SS Bhalwal, Principal of the host college assured that the good work of heritage education would continue in an institutionalized manner.
Prof Shiv Nirmohi, Purnima Dutt, Principal Director, Heritage Education and Communications Services Intach National Headquarters, New Delhi along with Moby Sara Zachariah, Programme Coordinator INTACH conducted the technical sessions.
Many hands-on activities and film shows were the main attraction of the workshop.
A Heritage Walk to Krimachi Archaeological monuments was also held.
Earlier, the welcome address was presented by Prof Sudhir Singh, Workshop Coordinator, Life member Intach and Convenor Heritage Club of the College.
SM Sahni, retd former Director Tourism, Jammu and Convener Intach Jammu Chapter proposed vote of thanks.
Among others present were Prof Bhikham Pal, Prof Ramesh Chander and Prof Jawed Sarwar.
