Terror attack and security breach

The joint operation conducted very successfully by the personnel of Army, CRPF, and police on Sept 13 in eliminating all the three terrorists belonging to Jaish-e- Mohammad deserves all kudos. They had “managed” to sneak in from Pakistan through the International Border between Hiranagar and Samba sectors in Jammu division. They were deservedly felled at village Dirthi in Kakryal area of Katra in Reasi district, within a short time. The terrorists had probably a bigger diabolical plan to strike and create violent acts in Jammu and Kashmir.
It was otherwise a” hectic day” for the security forces in having eliminated as many as eight terrorists in three separate operations in the state including the three, under reference. On Jammu Srinagar National Highway, a 32 hour long operation against the three JeM Pakistani terrorists resulted in their elimination and recovering arms and ammunition which they were carrying with them. It was, however, a matter of satisfaction that except injuries sustained by a few security forces personnel, there was no other damage suffered.
It has rightly been decided to hand over the entire case, following revelations by the driver and the owner of the truck about a nexus, to the NIA as it is learnt that the duo had been shifting the infiltrated terrorists from Jammu to the valley and as many as 20 to 22 terrorists had been transported like this during the last one year by them. The infiltration route used by the terrorists from Bein Nullah between Samba and Hiranagar sector has thoroughly been now investigated.
The important question, however, is as to how a security breach took place at this Nullah continuously for one year without the knowledge of the Border Security Force personnel guarding the borders. Had the vigil and the security apparatus been very effective, the chances of repeated infiltration through this route and especially during rainy season, including the one under reference, would have been very difficult.
Just see the other facet of the security related recklessness in that, right from Dayalchuck in Kathua up to Jajjar Kotli all the police “nakas” were easily and very conveniently jumped by this truck.
This is not the security lapse of the first kind especially in Jammu division and, therefore, learning from the series of the security breaches is a must to chalk out a firm, effective, foolproof and infallible strategy so as to pre-empt and thwart any such attempt in future by terrorists sent from across the border. It is the absence of enough caution or a weak security mechanism which facilitated and made “easy” for terrorists crossing from the border into this side, boarding a vehicle and then without any thorough checking and verification en-route, reaching up to Jajjar Kotli in Jammu and posting policemen without arms to search such vehicles must all hopefully, now, be the last instance in the entire sphere of the unfortunate events related to life and security of the people.
