RAMBAN, Apr 16: A teenager was killed, while another got seriously injured, when the bike they were riding on was hit by an Army vehicle near Shafa Pani area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
As per police sources, Army vehicle on its way to Jammu from Srinagar hit a bike near Shafa Pani area, resulting into serious injuries to rider and pillion rider.
Both the victims identified as Adil Ahmed (18), son of Mohammad Afzal and Basit Raja, son of Shakeel Ahmed, both residents of Doligam, Tehsil Banihal were rushed to SDH Banihal, from where Adil was referred to a hospital in Srinagar, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
A case under FIR Number 40/17 under Section 279 and 337 RPC has been registered at Banihal police station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, the people held protest and blocked the highway for half an hour at Banihal demanding immediate arrest of the accused driver.
After getting information, Tehsildar Banihal and SDPO Banihal rushed to the spot and assured the protestors that strict action will be taken against the driver.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
