Teacher training workshop on Earthian, UN-SDG projects organized

JAMMU, Oct 4: Centre for Environment Education and Training, India (J&K), in partnership with Centre for Environ-ment Education Ahmedabad and WIPRO, organized one day teachers training workshop, jointly with the Department of Environmental Sciences Jammu University, here today.
Padamshree S P Verma, president Gandhi Global Family J&K, was chief guest on the occasion while Chander Mohan Sharma, convener Tawi Andolan and Namami Ganga Mission and Dr Seema Rohmetra, Coordinator Gandhi Peace Foundation, Jammu chapter, were the guests of honour.
More than sixty teachers from Government and private schools, members of Tawi Andolan, Tawi Study Circle and prominent NGOs attended the workshop.
During the workshop, CEET India also signed landmark partnership MOU with Gandhi Global Family J&K and Gandhi Peace Foundation, Jammu chapter to work together for implementing all seventeen goals of Sustainable Development in J& K State.
The inaugural session covered lectures on United Nations’ seventeen Sustainable Goals while second session was on the orientation and practical training of teachers on Earthian project on collection of field data and its interpretation in the form of project reports on two themes of Biodiversity and Water.
Dr Seema Rohmetra   said that their NGO was one of the oldest in India which works to promote Gandhian thought and philosophy of peace, co-existence, tolerance and conflict resolution through non-violence means.   She further stressed on the need to apply Gandhian model of sustainable development and peace for the realization of SDGs in real essence.
Pramod Sharma, Programme Co-ordinator CEE Ahmedabad, informed the participants that this is the second year of Earthian project in J&K State.
Chief Guest, while speaking, informed that Gandhi Global Family and Gandhi Peace Foundation have been recognized by the United Nations to implement all 17 targets through seventeen schools in J&K for which all the teachers should take up action oriented projects in their schools and communities to achieve SDGs.
Chief guest also presented SDGs achievement certificate to Chander Mohan Sharma for his outstanding contribution to generate awareness among society to save river Tawi and its conservation.
On behalf of United Nations Information Centre, New Delhi, S.P.Verma recognizing services of Dr C M Seth, an eminent environmentalist for his outstanding contribution in the area of environment conservation and education and   honoured him by presenting UN-India Connect Pin.
During training, all teachers were directed to work for one month on Earthian Project and submit reports to CEE and WIPRO for selection of best action oriented project of their schools to compete for first, second and third prize. All India best entry carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh for the school.
Programme was  conducted by  Prof Deepika Salathia, vote of thanks was  presented by Dr C M Seth.
