This has reference to the news item ‘Students protest in Handwara’ DE Mar 29, 2018.
The protest by students of Higher Secondary School Behnipora Rajwar, Handwara against Government reflects apathetic attitude of the Government towards education sector in the State. The schools located in farflung areas of the State suffer due to shortage of staff and infrastructure.
Most of the Hr. Secondary Schools do not have subject teachers, or do not have subject combinations. In contrast to this, schools in towns and cities and have surplus staff. Sometime back the Government has started rationalization of staff so as to do justice with poor students. The shortage can be overcome also by filling vacant posts.
The Education Department received a big boost after the present Education Minister assumed the office.
He has taken a number of initiatives to reform the sector.
We expect he will also look into the issue of shortage of staff and infrastructure as well to meet the needs of the student community of the State.
