SPICMACAY circuit begins with sitar recital at KV No. 2

JAMMU, Nov 23: The current circuit of SPICMACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) commenced today at KV No 2 Gandhi Nagar with the sitar recital by Pt Prateek Choudhuri, one of the most outstanding Sitar players of the country.
“Pt Prateek Chaudhuri would perform in 13 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) thereby connecting with nearly 20,000 students. The other schools where the performances are going to be held include KV Sunjuwan, KV Nagrota, KV Bantalab, KV Miran Sahib, KV Lakhanpur, KV Samba, KV Kathua, KV Hiranagar, KV No 1 and KV No 2 Udhampur, KV No1 and KV No 2 Akhnoor,” said Dr Seema Rohmetra, Coordinator, Jammu region for SPICMACAY .
She further added that Pt Prateek Chaudhari has been ranked as a ‘’top class’ Artist of India by the National Television and Radio of the Government of India. He also has to his credit several awards like ‘Kala Ratna Award’, ‘Sangeet Ratna Award’, ‘Strings and Global Award’ and many others. Pt Prateek is accompanied by S Mukhopadhyay, one of the eminent Tabla maestros.
The performance was witnessed by around 2000 students today who were spellbound and completely mesmerized and enthusiastically participated in the question-answer session that followed the performance. Earlier, Bhushan Kumar, Principal KV No 2 Jammu welcomed the dignitaries while Gunjan Kohli conducted the proceedings.
State chairperson, SPICMACAY, Dr Sapna Kamal Sangra said that keeping up with the mission of SPICMACAY to reach every student by 2020, SPIC MACAY J&K chapter would be connecting thousands of children from Kendriya Vidyalas across the Jammu region in the coming week starting from Lakhanpur on the one hand and Udhampur on the other.
She further stated that in the recent past the city of Jammu has witnessed the performances of diverse art forms by internationally acclaimed artists such as Rani Khanam (Kathak) Padamshree Geeta Chandran (Bharatnatyam), Kavita Dwivedi (Odissi), Mahua Shanker (Kathak), Prerna Shrimali (Kathak) and Rajendra Prasanna (flute).
