Speaker asks doctors to prescribe only generic medicines

JAMMU, May 12: Speaker Legislative Assembly and Chairman, Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) Kavinder Gupta today asked the doctors to prescribe only generic medicines to patients, which are available at affordable rates.
He further asked the medicos to issue medicines to the poor patients available in the hospital stocks so that they are not forced to spend hefty amount to get these from the market.
The Speaker issued these instructions while chairing Rogi Kalyan Samiti meeting at Government Rajiv Gandhi Hospital and LRPU, Gangyal here.
Chief Medical Officer, Jammu and Vice Chairman, RKS Dr. Robinder Khajuria, Medical Superintendent, Rajiv Gandhi Hospital Dr. Poonam Mahajan,  senior leader Baldev Singh Billowria and other members of the Samiti attended the meeting.
The Medical Superintendent apprised the Samiti members about the performance and financial achievements of the hospital in the month of April. She informed that during April month 3,108 patients were treated and 625 laboratory tests were conducted by the hospital.
The Speaker also reviewed the expenditure and revenue generated by the hospital in the first quarter. He was informed that various quality improvement measures have been taken by the hospital management to improve patient care.
In the meeting, the doctors projected their concerns related to shortage of staff in the hospital, need for single window system for collection of revenue, requirement of laboratory items, X-ray films, transformer and generator for the smooth functioning of the hospital.
After listening to their demands, the Speaker said that a 25 KW genset would be provided to the hospital from his CDF and asked for making provision for rehabilitation of leprosy patients admitted in the hospital as part of the rehabilitation drive.
