SRINAGAR, Apr 17: A soldier was injured in a militant attack at Seer area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
A group of militants opened fire on Army’s 42 RR patrolling party at Seer Jagier area of Tral this afternoon. The fire was retaliated ensuing a brief exchange of gunfire but militants later fled from the spot. A soldier was injured and he has been shifted to military hospital for treatment.
Sources said that militants hurled a grenade from a house on a patrolling party and fired at them and Army retaliated.
Soon after the attack, additional reinforcement of Army’s 42 RR and SOG reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area to trace out the militants. House to house searches were conducted. However, no militant was found in the village. The operation was later called off.
In the meantime, a worried family of a soldier from Safnagri area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district has appealed their son to shun violence and return home.
A day after the picture of the Army man went viral on social media holding an AK 47 rifle, the family of Mir Idrees Sultan, son of Mohammad Sultan Mir of Safnagri in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, has appealed him to shun militancy and return home. He has reportedly joined Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.
According to the family members, he was posted in Bihar and had come home on leave. “He disappeared from his home on April 11. We started looking for him but after one day his photograph appeared on the social media wherein he was holding an assault rifle”, his father said,  adding the image confirmed that he has joined the militant ranks.
He appealed his son to come back home as the financial condition of their family is miserable. “He knows the condition of the family. He has left us in shock. My vision is dwindling despite undergoing two surgeries. I urge him to at least, think about his ailing father, “he said.
He, however, lamented that he has no inkling that his son would join the militant ranks as he has been serving the Army for last three years. “It’s a shock for us,” he said.
In the meantime, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen today confirmed that soldier who was missing has joined the outfit.
