Soldier, cop injured in militant firing

SRINAGAR, July 27: A soldier and a cop were injured as militants fired at them in South Kashmir tonight.
A soldier of 62 RR of Army was injured when militants fired at security forces in Matribugh village of Shopian tonight.
Reports said that 62 RR and SOG Shopian cordoned off Matribugh village in Shopian tonight. As they were cordoning off the village, militants fired at them from the orchard in which one Army man was injured. Security forces chased the militants but they fled under the cover of darkness.
Security forces also cordoned off parts of Shopian town after several gunshots were heard in the area.
Militants tonight shot at a police man identified as Saleem Yusuf at Yamrach village in Kulgam. He had gone home on leave and received a bullet in the leg in the attack. He was removed to Anantnag hospital for treatment.
Militants tonight ransacked the house of Superintendent of Police (SP) Dawood at Qoimoh. However, the SP was not at home and lives in Srinagar. This is for the fourth time that his house has been ransacked by militants.
Militants also ransacked houses of two cops at Mirhama village in Kulgam. They also threatened the cops’ families. However, the cops were not at home.
