Snowfall continues in upper reaches of Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Intermittent snowfall continued for the third successive day in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and other upper reaches in Kashmir valley though bright sunshine greeted people in the summer capital, Srinagar, brining much need relief from chilly weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the night temperature dipped though remained above normal at majority of the places in Kashmir valley, where weather will remain dry on Saturday.

A Met department spokesperson said that a fresh Western Disturbance (WD), which originated from the Arabian Sea and is approaching through Afghanistan and Pakistan, will hit the region on Sunday. “The WD will result in more snow and rain from Sunday onwards,” he added.

After received intermittent rain during the last two days, people woke up to a sunny Friday morning in Srinagar, resulting in major improvement in the maximum temperature, which settled over 2 degree above normal. As the day progressed, light rain lashed the city in the evening though weather again turned pleasant as sun came out from behind the clouds.
