SMVDU celebrates Foundation Day by organising faculty-students interaction

KATRA, Sept 1: Celebrating the spirit of the achieving academic excellence, the foundation day of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was observed in a mood of retrospection, introspection and future vison and re-vision on the University campus.
On this occasion a “Faculty-Student Brainstorming Interactive Session on Achieving Academic Excellence” was held in the presence of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, deans, directors, Registrar, faculty, staff members and students.
Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, while addressing the audience, stressed upon the essentials of excellence such as achievement motivation, priority to hard work, and developing competence and other significant parameters of seizing quality of learning and teaching. He emphasized on the important steps towards excellence with special regard to subject related knowledge, computer and related skills, supplement knowledge, communication skills, inter-personal skills and multi-culture exposure. He concluded the talk by focusing upon the implications to achieving academic excellence and the role of commitment in accomplishing the same.
Prof. V. Verma Dean Faculty of Engineering continued the session by asserting on the importance of team work. He gave examples from different departments starting from Electronics and Communications, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Architecture and Biotechnology to emphasize on inter-disciplinary approach.
Prof. Mukhopadaya, Dean, Faculty of Management discussed the various domains of Management prevalent presentlyin the university. He shared a Sanskritidiom, ‘Creation of Knowledge is Nectar’ which the department abides by and which has been diversified in the university.
The session was taken over by Prof. V.K. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Sciences who underlined the importance of time management and right direction for achieving one’s goals. He also focused on the significance of having subject knowledge, their learning objectives and why is the teacher teaching it. Dr Vandhana Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Scienceswho highlighted the significance of Foundation Day as in retrospection and introspection.
She also shared a video on the life and struggle of Eagle to assert on the change in one’s life and vision and re-vision which is very pertinent to achieve excellence.
Bhupendra Singh, the General Secretary of Students’ Affairs Council, laid importance on the motive of life to move ahead in one’s career and future. The session concluded with an interactive session where in Dr. Yugal Khajuria stressed upon the importance of discipline in one’s life in order to triumph in life. Moreover, the students also participated enthusiastically suggesting the importance of teachers as the torch bearers in the lives of students.
