Shutdown in Tral, Sopore

SRINAGAR, Sept 28: Shutdown for the second consecutive day was observed in Sopore town of Baramulla district and Tral town of Pulwama district against the killing of militant commander Qayoom Najjar and a civilian Mushtaq Ahmad respectively.
All the shops and commercial establishments were closed in Sopore town against the killing of Lashkar-e-Islam chief Qayoom Najjar in a gunfight on Line of Control early this week. The educational institutes including schools and colleges were also shut in Sopore on Government directions as a precautionary measure. The situation, however, remained peaceful and no incident of violence was reported.
In Tral town of Pulwama district, the shutdown was observed against the killing of the civilian Mushtaq Ahmad in last week’s grenade attack on Works Minister Naeem Akhtar. Mushtaq was admitted in Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura and succumbed yesterday. In total, three civilians were killed and 32 persons were injured in the attack in which Minister had escaped unhurt.
