JAMMU, Mar 30: Jammu and Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee strongly condemned the statement of Relief and Rehabilitation Minster Syed Bhasharat Ahmed Bukhari in the State Assembly saying that Government was following the settlement package of Rs 910 crore as onetime settlement for DPs 1947 from PoK and other categories submitted by previous Government to GoI.
In a statement issued here today the Committee said that DPs will resent such mindset of the Government which clearly indicates non seriousness on its part to resolve the legitimate human issue.
While expressing his concern Gurdev Singh president of the Committee termed the package scripted by previous Government as half cooked and politically motivated said the package was submitted to GoI prior to Assembly poll to entice the DPs to think in their way.
He said the package was proposed by previous Government for 36,384 DP families vis-a-vis 26,319 families from PoK and 10,065 families for Chhamb Sector of 1965,71. Out of total 31,619 families from PoK registered for ex-gratia grant in 1960, only 26319 families have been considered while calculating the amount for the package of Rs 9100 crore. The remaining 5300 families have not been reflected in the package, he added.
He apprehended that once this package is sent again by this Government in the same shape and approved by Central government then what would be the fate of these left out families. This package is also silent about 9500 bonafide State subject families which were not considered for ex-gratia grant in 1960 due to certain unwanted conditions imposed by Government which have been waved off now.
He further expressed reservation regarding the package and recent recommendations made by JPC on Home Affairs wherein DPs of 1947 from PoK have been equated with other categories of DPS/ refugees particularly in respect of cash compensation to the tune of Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh each family.
