JAMMU, Jan 21: Vice-Chairman of State Advisory Board for Development of Kissans and MLA Nowshera, Radhay Sham Sharma has urged the Government of India for not shelving proposed Jammu-Poonch rail line project.
In a statement, Mr Sharma appealed the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Ministers Dr Farooq Abdullah and Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to personally take up the matter with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Ministry of Railway to review its decision of shelving the prestigious project.
Terming the rail line via Akhnoor-Sunderbani-Nowshera-Rajouri and Poonch as his dream project, Mr Sharma expressed his shock over the reports on shelving the move by the Railway Ministry. The completion of this project would have helped in boosting tourism and trade potential of the area besides providing easy and comfortable connectivity to the public of Poonch-Rajouri districts, he added.
Shelving the project is a matter of concern for not only Poonch-Rajouri but entire J&K and the State Government needs to intervene over the issue, Mr Sharma said and reminded that survey work on the rail line had already been completed long back due to his personal efforts.
