AKHNOOR, Oct 30: Reiterating his commitment to serve the people of Jammu region with pride and without compromising the dignity of Duggar land, the Congress Minister and legislator from Akhnoor Sham Lal Sharma has said that the people of Jammu region must show a united face to get their equal share in the development.
Addressing series of public meetings in Akhnoor constituency, Sham Lal urged the like- minded political parties to rise above the petty political gains and fight for the equality of the people of Jammu region. Underlining the role of Congress party in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Sharma said that as and when the party was in the helm of affairs, the State got equal treatment in all fields and progressed tremendously. But during the tenure of other parties, the Jammu region remained victim of mal-treatment and discrimination on all the fronts. The people of this region continued to suffer for want of basic facilities and the focus of the successive Governments remained in Kashmir valley. But now, the trend has been changed and no such discrimination will be tolerated.
Mr Sharma claimed that during his tenure as Minister he fought for the cause of Jammu people till last moment. “ I single handedly fought for the regularization of daily rated workers but some NC ministers sabotaged the move and compelled me to resign from the Ministry.”
He further said that it is only Congress party which can guard the honour of the people of Jammu as it has proved in rest of the country, where it has ruled for over five decades. He said the Congress Party has a strong and secular foundation. The party always promoted brotherhood and worked for upliftment of weaker sections of the society. He described BJP, NC and even the PDP as communal and divisive forces, which always played politics on communal and religious lines to gain power.
